Now that the middle of the summer is upon us, it’s time to start preparing for the coming educational year. Religious education of our children and teens is an important part of our ministry as a Catholic community. St. Paul puts it this way: “How can they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach?” It’s crucial that we pass on the faith that we have received from generation to generation, in our families at home and in our parish families as well.
For our parish children starting at age 3 through grade 5, we will offer the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in three different levels, tailored to the age and development of our youngest parishioners. This program is based on the educational methods of Dr. Maria Montessori. Level I (ages 3-5) will be offered on Sunday mornings at all three campuses, and students in grades
1-5 will take part in evening classes at the Faith Formation Center on Monday or Tuesday evenings starting in September.
For our middle school students in grades 6 through 8, the EDGE program offers a comprehensive 3-year program which combines catechesis, community, food, and fun and takes place every Sunday night at Holy Angels. The evening beings with the Life Teen Mass at 5pm and continues immediately following with dinner and programming until 8:00pm. EDGE will host an overnight lock-in at Holy Angels and weekly EDGE nights begin September 15.
Children in Second Grade and Eighth Grade have a special program dedicated to Sacramental Preparation as they continue their Christian Initiation with the celebration of First
Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. Students who are enrolled in any of our education programs (Good Shepherd, Edge, or Sandusky Central Catholic School) in grade two or eight should pay close attention for the additional formation necessary to prepare them to receive the sacraments.
Registration for Good Shepherd and EDGE will take place online. Online registration will take place on Sunday, August 4 and information will be available on that day at www.sanduskycatholic.org
Students at SCCS who wish to receive First Holy Communion or Confirmation will need to register for the sacrament in person at the Meet-the-Teacher event on Tuesday, August 20.
Keep the Faith!
